Expression at Home with Daniela Upmark
Creative entrepreneur and jewellery artist Daniela Upmark has curated a home shaped by contrast. Nestled in Saltsjöbaden, just outside Stockholm, her house is sculptural but soft; refined yet relaxed; minimalist in look, yet rich in feeling. Discover how Daniela’s design approach mirrors her approach to life: guided by instinct, grounded in nature, and never afraid to mix the unexpected.

INTENTION MEETS INSTINCT
The design philosophy behind Daniela’s home echoes her approach to jewellery: timeless, personal, and built on contrast. "I’ve always loved the feeling of designing something of my own," she says.
It’s a space that reflects both intuition and craft. Where calmness flows through natural wood, stone and soft neutrals.
Daniela renovated every corner of her home to create something that would blend beautifully with the surroundings and grow with her family.
For Daniela, good design never starts with a floorplan, it starts with a feeling. “I always begin with how I want a room to make me feel – and then build function around that,” she explains. "That’s shaped how I design my home. I follow what feels right, not what’s expected."

LIVING IN CONTRAST
From one space to the next, Daniela’s home effortlessly balances harmony with contrast.
Every room shares the same warm white hue, softened by rich textures, natural materials and earthy tones. ”Then we’ve played with contrasts through fabrics and objects,” she says. “The beauty always lies in that balance between softness and structure”.
Wooden frames and linen curtains sit beside plush upholstery and sculptural ceramics. And within that tranquillity, bold gestures take their place – whether it’s a zebra-striped sofa or abstract art.
"The safe choice would have been something neutral, but I wanted a statement piece that adds edge and personality,” Daniela explains. “The zebra-print sofa sets the tone for the whole house and actually creates harmony by grounding everything else around it.”
Daniela’s love of contrast is expressed not just in design, but in how the space lives and breathes: calm mornings with creative chaos, soft linens with bold patterns, minimalism with a sense of soul.

AN INSPIRED DESIGN STORY
She draws inspiration from everywhere: magazines, Pinterest, travel, and from within. “When I take care of myself from the inside out, the inspiration flows naturally. It’s not something I have to chase.”
Daniela’s aesthetic also nods to 70s-era Los Angeles, infused with soft Swedish minimalism.
"That laid-back elegance mixed with warmth," Daniela explains. "I always seek a sense of comfort and homeliness. Spaces that feel relaxed and alive at the same time."
And when it comes to design rules, Daniela’s happy to break them. One being that silver and gold shouldn’t mix. “I love combining different metals,” she says. “It creates depth, contrast and personality.”

NATURAL EXPRESSIONS
Daniela believes a house becomes a home through the little details. “It’s in the scent that greets you at the door, the books you read, the ceramics you drink from,” she says.
These small touches reflect the lives of everyone who shares the space: her partner, her daughters, and their slow weekends or summer escapes to Mallorca – a place that has become the family’s second home.
From custom-built wooden shelves to soothing textures, Daniela’s interiors embrace nature’s palette. “Wood is my current obsession, in every form,” she says. “Wood brings a calm, grounded feeling to the space.”
As for the song that best reflects her home? Daniela smiles: "Dreams by Fleetwood Mac."
Soft, expressive, grounded. Just like the home she’s created.
