THE MAKING OF: FLOWERS FOR A HOME

Two creative perspectives, one shared vision. Discover the story behind Flowers For A Home, as Lilo Klinkenberg and Bemz Head of Design Filippa Bonde explore colour, material and form to shape a new collection together.

Where two creative worlds meet

Inside Lilo Klinkenberg's Berlin studio, flowers become something altogether different. Sculptural forms rest quietly among sketches, fabric swatches and colour studies. They are not simply floral sculptures, but explorations of shape, texture and atmosphere. Together, they offer a glimpse into the creative world that would inspire Flowers For A Home.

It was here that Lilo welcomed Bemz’s Head of Design, Filippa Bonde, to begin shaping the collection.

Together, they set out to explore how Lilo's distinctive visual language could take on a new expression through textiles for the home. What followed wasn't simply a design workshop, but a meeting of two creative processes, with each approaching the same challenge from a completely different direction.

Different perspectives. One shared vision

Lilo begins with the whole. A room. A feeling. The mood she wants a space to evoke.

Filippa begins with the material itself. Fibres, weaves, colour palettes and emerging ideas become the starting point before gradually evolving into products and interiors.

Rather than competing, their different perspectives quickly became complementary, each challenging and refining the other as the collection evolved. Because despite their different approaches, both share an ambition: to create a collection that felt personal, timeless and full of character.

Together they explored silhouette, contrast, texture and the feeling a room should evoke, slowly building a shared creative language before a single design was finalised.

Shaping the collection

With a shared vision established, the ideas begin to take shape. Rather than starting from a blank canvas, Lilo and Filippa looked to enduring references, including classic damask motifs, and explored how they could feel relevant again. Colour combinations were tested, patterns enlarged and reduced, and familiar forms shifted through texture, scale and material.

Throughout the process, no idea was accepted too quickly. Different combinations were explored before the strongest expressions emerged – a balance of softness and graphic clarity that now defines Flowers For A Home.

The art of collaboration

As the day progressed, it became clear that the collection wasn't shaped by one perspective, but by two.

Lilo's instinct for atmosphere and spatial storytelling met Filippa's deep understanding of materiality and textile design. Together they developed a collection where satin weaves sit beside tactile bouclés, decorative damasks meet graphic stripes, and enduring references are reimagined through unexpected colour and texture.

The result is a collection that feels unmistakably Lilo and unmistakably Bemz, brought together through a shared belief in the power of thoughtful design.
