How to create a unique child’s bedroom
The magic of childhood is the ability to fully embrace their self-expression. As your little ones grow up they are learning more about who they are (and who they aren’t), and their bedroom space should reflect that. A child’s sense of self evolves, but re-designing their bedroom as they change is a costly and unsustainable task. Some thoughtful little updates can easily transform their space and give them the bedroom of their dreams.

The bed is a focal point of the room. But before buying a new bed, consider what you can do with our fully customised bedroom range. With so many universal sizes, fits for IKEA bed models and fabrics, the possibilities are endless.
Statement headboards
Think about updating timeless pieces that can easily be swapped in years to come as their tastes change. A headboard is a good example. A simple headboard cover gives a completely different look to a bed frame. It can anchor the room and effortlessly inject your child’s energy. Bemz has a range of headboard covers to choose from. They’re so easy to fit – get your child to help and liven up their room in minutes.
Expressive bedding
Blankets and bedspreads are an easy way to let their personality shine through. Dreamy florals or whimsical stripes say so much more about them than a plain bed cover or the latest character trend. And if you have children sharing a room, unique bedding is a great way to make their space feel like their own. Our range of blankets and bedspreads come in muslins, linens and wool fabrics. The textures are soft and inviting. They drape beautifully and are ideal for snuggling and sleepovers.

Comforting cushions
Cushions add a warm and cosy element to their bed, while also giving the comfort they need to relax. Our cushion covers have something to fuel every child’s imagination, from square to round and double length cylindrical bolsters in an explosion of prints, colours and textures. They’re also the ideal finishing touch for a day bed that doubles up as reading nook.
Finishing touches
Have you ever considered a bedskirt? They can make a subtle update or a big impression. Bright and clashing patterns are full of energy to create a lively space, while warmer softer tones can blend in with the bedding to create a more calming balance. They’re also a great way to conceal what (or who) is hiding under the bed. Adding or swapping legs is another way to quickly change the look of the bed. Furnished from Scandinavian wood ours are timeless and will grow with them.
A new mattress (without the new mattress)
The humble mattress isn’t just a mattress to a child. It’s a springboard for a new adventure, or a spot for a midnight feast. And of course, another opportunity to reveal their true personality. Instantly breathe new life into a plain spring mattress with a mattress cover or daybed cover. Keep the same shades for a cohesive look, or clash with bold patterns.

Child-friendly covers
It’s a fact that children are messy. All our covers are washable, so they will stay looking clean – even after they make a mess.
Follow their lead
We always suggest ordering fabric swatches first to see how they look and feel in your space, (you can enjoy five for free). Involve your child and let them play with shades, prints and finishes that call to them. They may have a favourite colour, style or hobby which can be reflected in what they choose. Circus stripes, wild animal prints, cheerful ginghams, popping florals? The sky really is the limit. They will love being involved and cherish the memories of designing a room to their tastes. You could even use your Bemz swatches to create a mood board together.
Go beyond the bed
There are lots of other ways to add more of your child’s personality into their bedroom. Why not add matchy-matchy curtains to complete the look, or stripe a beloved armchair with a memorable print?
